Stars Launch Charity Song At Asian Event (October 2007)

Music producer Mukhtar Sahota and singer Am’nico launched an exclusive new song written for a local charity at the British Asian Hafta Awards evening on 28th October.

The song, titled “Anything” is sung by Am’nico and produced by Mukhtar Sahota, and was written for Sandwell Asian Family Support Service, who provide a range of care services for South Asian children and young people with disabilities.

Singer Am’nico said “It’s been a great pleasure to have written the signatory song for SAFSS as they are doing a wonderful job working with South Asian children and young people with disabilities, as well as educating families and the community about acceptance and understanding disability.”

Music Producer Mukhtar Sahota said: “After completing the music production for the song ‘Anything’ it was a great joy for me to perform it live for the first time at the British Asian Hafta, and to represent SAFSS to help promote awareness of their charity and the significant work they are doing.”

Sandwell Asian Family Support Service (SAFSS) is one of the nominated charities for ‘British Asian Hafta’. British Asian Hafta (Week) celebrates the contributions made by British Asians to the UK. It runs between October 27th and November 9th during which a series of events will be held to highlight the achievements of British Asians and the breadth of talent within the community.

Based in Smethwick, SAFSS support South Asian children, young people and young adults with disabilities by providing a range of quality care services and opportunities to enhance their quality of life. SAFSS run an After School Club, provides domiciliary care (care at home service), a young adults group, parents and carers support group and a liaison and outreach service. All SAFSS service users are of South Asian origin (Bangladeshi, Indian and Pakistani) and are aged 0-35 years.

Chief Executive of SAFSS, Parpinder K Dhatt said “I would like to thank Mukhtar and Am’nico for supporting Sandwell Asian Family Support Service in this very special way. The song “Anything” promotes a positive attitude to disability, focusing on a child’s ability rather than disability. Mukhtar and Am’nico have given SAFSS the opportunity to educate people through song and music and enable us to reach a new audience. It is nice for our children to have their own song and for many it is a dream come true.

“I would also like to thank all the attendees of the British Asian Hafta Awards dinner who were most generous and raised over £1,000 towards our work with children and young people with disabilities. “

The song “Anything” appears on Am’nico’s debut album shortly to be released through Internalmusic.
