Children Star-Struck By Celebrity Visit (August 2007)

Children and young people at Sandwell Asian Family Support Service had stars in their eyes today when music producer Mukhtar Sahota and singer-songwriter Am’nico paid a visit to celebrate 21 years of the charity.

The children and young people with disabilities entertained the stars – who will be performing at SAFSS 21st Anniversary Dinner and Dance on the 31st August 2007 – with a musical performance. They were joined by Taj from Made of Music who will also be performing at the event.

Hosted by the BBC’s Satnam Rana and BBC Asian Network’s Sukhi Bart, the dinner and dance will showcase the best in British Asian entertainment and will include special performances by Taz (Stereo Nation), Hitesh (Man from Africa) and Rama, the Aashiyana Dance Company, and dhol playing by Made of Music.

Sandwell Asian Family Support Service was established in 1986 to respond to research conducted by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation which identified South Asian families were not taking up mainstream health and care services. SAFSS continues to provide a range of culturally sensitive services for children and young people with disabilities or life-limiting conditions and their families, working with families to break down the cultural and language barriers they face in accessing services and to lead more independent lives.
