Asian Organisation to get a make over (June 2007)

Sandwell Asian Family Support Service (SAFSS) will be getting a Changing Rooms-style make-over thanks to the staff of Unifix – and they will only have one day to do it!

The challenge - to completely redecorate a room used by children and young people with disabilities in one working day - has been set as part of the Business in the Community’s employee volunteering programme, Cares.

Taking up the challenge are a team of 12 Unifix volunteers, who will descend on the site at 9am on Tuesday June 12 to kit out the multi-purpose room with items donated by local organisations.

24 hours later children with disabilities will be benefiting from a range of donated toys, videos and games, and a brand new television, while parents will be able to relax in a new ‘cosy area’.

Parpinder K Dhatt, Chief Executive of SAFSS said “ We are thrilled to have the staff of Unifix supporting SAFSS. Our children, young people and parents frequently use this room and it is in need of a complete redecoration. To undertake this in just one day is a big task but we know Unifix can do it!

“Our service users are very excited about the redecoration, especially as the volunteers have managed to obtain a huge range of donated goods to kit the room out. A special thank you to all the companies and individuals who have kindly given donations and their time.”

Mr Habib, whose son Aftab has been using the services at SAFSS for ten years, said:

“Aftab loves coming to the centre at SAFSS and is really excited about the new room. As a parent it makes a big difference to know that organisations like Unifix are helping SAFSS to support parents of children with disabilities in Sandwell.”
